UNCOMFORTABLE COMFORT

Sound-Installation 2010
Sound: Maurice Louca

The sculpture is inspired by Marcela Eliana Acuña, an Argentine professional woman boxer.

The body is not only a visual representation of ideas from which we can detect its sociology and metaphysics; the body, however, is a stimulator and reactor towards a consciousness that is beyond interpretation.
The present body goes beyond visual processing but is able to occupy more instinctive areas with its presence in the human subconscious. Here, the idea of presence through the three-dimensional figure occupies both a mental space through the direct physicality of its posture and existence within the room. Signs from civilization, in the form of drawings, surround this figure, fusing an existence that the body both refuses and is drawn towards. This tension reveals a broken desire that makes the body reassess its condition towards its surroundings; where a living room could turn into a courtroom and comfort can easily find its way to confinement.

The installation is bought to another sensory dimension through which sound acts as a time dimension rather than an illustration of mood or atmosphere.
